| Q: | Where can I buy a webcam? |
| A: | Many shops sell electronic equipment like webcams online. We suggest you buy a Logitech webcam or similar brand. Simply do a google search to find a shop close to your place |
| |
| Q: | My webcam does not seem to be working, why? |
| A: | If you are using another software that uses your webcam, like MSN, Yahoo, Netmeeting, etc, please close that application and re-enter our chat. Maybe Flash did not detect your cam correctly, you can also click on the 'Webcam setup' link on the cam box in chat and select a valid camera and microphone. Make sure also you allowed Flash to use your webcam. In the same setup screen, on the first tab, you can allow Flash to use your webcam. |
| |
| Q: | I seem to be having problems with my browser using your chat, what's the problem? |
| A: | The chat works with any browser that supports Macromedia Flash version 8 or above, but we suggest you use the excellent Firefox browser or the most recent version of Microsoft Internet Explorer. We have not tested the system with a Mac, but it should be working using Firefox. |
| |
| Q: | Everytime I get in the chat, there's a message asking me if I want to allow access to my webcam, can I disable this message? |
| A: | Yes you can. Right-click on the chat and go in Settings. In the small form that's going to popup, click the "Remember" checkbox and next time you go in chat, you won't be asked again. |
| |
| Q: | I just went in chat and it's empty or almost empty, why? |
| A: | At the moment many chat users log in at Europe's evening time so it's very busy at that time but we would like more people from america and elsewhere to use the chat, too. To get some fun started, stay in chat for a little while even if it's empty and people will start pouring in. |
| |
| Q: | How can I browse WSOTG without having to leave chat? |
| A: | Most browsers like Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer allow you to right-click on a link and open the link in a new browser. So you could simply right-click on places you want to go on the site, and browse the site on a new window browser without leaving the chat itself. |
| |
| Q: | How can I send someone a private message? |
| A: | There are two ways. The first way is to select someone in the user list to the left and then type a private message in the text box appearing at the top-right of the chat screen. The second way is to type the command /msg username message so for example to send CrazyWilly a message you would type /msg CrazyWilly hello there! |
| |
| Q: | I am not allowed to send private messages, why? |
| A: | We have limited the private messaging system in the chat to paying members and active verified contributors for one main reason: because most people ended talking privately to each other thus leaving the main chat room totally quiet and dead. This can be very bad for the chat's atmosphere and we decided to limit private messaging to people with full access. Please be respectful of newcomers and try to include them in your conversations. Please note that you need to be a *verified* and *active* contributor to send private messages, meaning that you need to have sent a picture of yourself holding a WSOTG sign and also need to have uploaded pictures in the past 30 days and have a FREE pass to the site. |
| |
| Q: | How can I look at a user's profile? |
| A: | It's very easy. Select a user from the list and then a polaroid icon ( ) will appear on the user panel at the top-right of the chat screen. Simply click on the icon and the member's profile will popup. You need to enable popups for wsotg.com to use this feature |
| |
| Q: | How can I ignore a user that bothers me? |
| A: | There are three ways. When a user sends a message in the room or in a private message to you, a ignore link shows up beside the member's name. Simply clicking this link will add the user to your ignore list. The second way is to use the chat command /ignore username. The third way is to click the ignore button on the user's private panel on the top right. Please note that this will add the user to your list of ignored contacts and you won't be able to receive private messages through wsotg.com from this member. |
| |
| Q: | How can I unignore a user I ignored by mistake? |
| A: | On the user's private panel, located in the chat top right's corner when you select the user, there is an un-ignore icon. By clicking this icon you will unignore the user. |
| |
| Q: | How can I quickly know where someone is from? |
| A: | If a member has entered age and/or city/state/country, it will show up in a tooltip when you mouse over the user list to the left. If there is no tooltip it's because the member did not enter any information in his/her profile. |
| |
| Q: | How can I select a user who just sent me a message? |
| A: | You can simply click on the name in the chat textbox of the person who sent a message and it will automatically select the user in the list for you. |
| |
